Business Signs That Could Set You Apart!

Category: General
Published:

When it comes to business signs, we typically find that customers revert to the standard examples around them.

Their shop front sign may be similar to their competitor or neighbour, but with a different name on the front. Their vehicle fleet will likely have their logo on the side with contact details. Maybe they’ve invested in window graphics to make the most of this advertising/branding space at their office.

This is all good stuff, and we would encourage it all. But things can get quite exciting when you start thinking outside the box!

Thinking Differently About Business Signs

We would encourage businesses that are ready to invest in their brand and signage to think of their signage requirements as a branding project; How will every sign work together to create an overall image of their business, and project a powerful and clear message.

Business Signs are physical, and when working with a company like Centurion Signs it’s your opportunity to completely stand out with something impressive and eye-catching.

Ideas to Consider

If your signage project involves more than 1 sign, here are some things to consider as you progress:

How is your brand communicated across all signs?

In our recent article “The Signage Solutions Your Business Needs to Consider”, we discussed how your brand identity is conveyed. Well when working across multiple signs, this can become easier as long as your design and style is consistent! Check out the rebranding projects below.

What materials could you use?

Depending on the location of your sign and elements it must endure, the world of materials is your oyster! We have worked with everything from foam board to wood. A rustic restaurant may benefit from a wooden indoor sign, but modern engineering firm could be best represented with composite aluminium. Our design and manufacturing team are here to guide you, but also listen to any requests.

Could your sign be interactive?

Interaction doesn’t purely come from digital screens… Check out this incredible billboard advertising the BBC drama ‘Dracula’, which gets more impressive and creepy as the sun goes down: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07zr254

Does it have to be a standard shape?

At the beginning of this article we discussed the tendency to opt for standard examples that we see around us… Well there are many impressive examples out there that show the benefits of being different! Remember, you want to be seen and stand out!

In this example of the Baby Grand in Glasgow, we build beyond the typical extremities of their rectangular shop front sign, showing energy extruding from the establishment (seen above the ‘A’)!

Examples of Business Signs that Went the Extra Mile

The Bright Lights of the Glasgow Quay

Situated in the shadow of Glasgow’s Kingston Bridge, and home to many large restaurant and entertainment chains, “The Quay” (formerly known as “Springfield Quay”) is an award winning, popular riverside leisure venue seen by over 150,000 travelers who cross the bridge daily.

We had the task of making the business signs of this large entertainment and leisure park brighter and more impressive than ever before, and included in the design was traditional looking neon tube lights, all aligned like you may see on the Las Vegas strip!

Well, as neon signs are relatively expensive and far less reliable than LED illumination, we came up with a solution to feed 3km of LED lighting into 600 individual coloured battens, which were constructed using a bespoke extruded aluminium profile. The final effect was perfect!

1.4 tonnes of Signage 100m High!

Another job completed in Glasgow, we had the challenge of making The City of Glasgow College feature sign visible from across the city and beyond!

Spanning 16 metres in length, 1.5 metres tall and weighing over 1,400 kilograms each, the sheer scale of these signs, along with the location and exposed environment, required us to be diligent and thorough with each stage of the project. From structural and construction design to material selection, fabrication techniques to transportation methodology, installation process and even future aftercare maintenance, we had to apply a considered, professional approach to ensure the project was completed safely and successfully.

Manufactured with special light diffusing acrylic faces these signs have become an iconic feature of the Glasgow skyline.
